Sydney Sweeney’s Saturday Night Live hosting debut marked a personal milestone.
During her SXSW panel on Tuesday, the actress admitted that her March 2 appearance on the show was “scary” but something she wanted to do.
“It was so scary that my mouth dried up,” Sweeney added. “I’m having panic attacks thinking about it. I wanted to do it because I believe it is vital to face your fears, and the entire SNL experience was tough and intimidating.”
The Anyone But You star revealed that she learned to overcome her concerns at an early age.
“This is ingrained in my memory,” Sweeney said. “When I was 14, I was invited to a screen test for a recurring job on television. It was ABC Family. The room held more than two individuals. “I got so nervous that I forgot all of my lines.” The experience made her “so scared.”
“I remember apologizing profusely, and I asked to leave,” she went on to say. “It set me up to know that it’s ok to be nervous and turn it into excitement.”
Sweeney told PEOPLE that she wants to host SNL again, which comes as no surprise.
“I was so scared, but I had so much fun,” she said to PEOPLE earlier this month. “I was so glad I did it, and I’d like to do it again sometime because I feel like I’m prepared, I can do it, I know what the process is like, and everyone’s so fun. It’s just such a wonderful set of folks.”
Sweeney used her first speech on the show to mock allegations that she was having an affair with her Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell.
“That’s clearly not true. Sweeney stated, “My fiancé and I produced the film together, and he was present throughout the shoot. I just want everyone to know that he’s the man of my dreams, and we’re still together and stronger than ever.”
Powell was humorously seen sitting in the audience after she requested that the camera focus on her fiancé Jonathan Davino.
