In her recent appearance on The Tonight Show, Shakira affirmed that she is enjoying a newfound sense of freedom after separating from her husband. During her interview with host Jimmy Fallon, Shakira explained that the end of her marriage to Gerard Piqué has allowed her to explore more complete paths. “I don’t have time for the ‘husband factor’,” Shakira explained, referring to being able to focus on her creative endeavors. “Now I don’t have a husband anymore. Yes, the husband was dragging me down. Now I’m free. Now I can really work.”
With that burden lifted from her shoulders, Shakira has embarked on her first full-length studio album in seven years – the album titled Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Wоmen Don’t Cry Anymore).
“While writing each song, I am rebuilding myself,” Shakira shared in a statement upon the album’s release. “When I sing them, my tears turn into diamonds, my pаin turns into strength.” In a review of Shakira’s album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, Rolling Stone wrote, “In Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, Shakira finally turns the page on the tumultuous past two years and reintroduces herself – not as the soccer mom Shakira, nor the suffering Shakira, but as Shakira the international pop icon and undefeated champion.”
Through this album, Shakira has been able to access healing and reshape her overall narrative in her own unique way. She expressed on The Tonight Show, “It’s been too long, we had to cry with a never-ending script just because we are wоmen. We had to hide our pаin in front of our children, in front of society. We had to heal somehow.”
“I don’t think anyone can tell us how to heal,” she continued. “I think now wоmen decide when to cry, how to cry, and how long to cry.”
