Shakira and Karol G emerged as the standout winners at this year’s Latin Grammys, taking home three awards each. The 24th edition of the prestigious event, which recognizes achievements in the Latin music industry, marked a significant milestone as it was held in Seville, Spain, for the first time.
Shakira’s notable victories included Song of the Year and Pop Song of the Year for her collaboration on “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” while her joint effort with Karol G on “TQG” earned them the Best Urban/Fusion Performance award. Expressing her gratitude, Karol G remarked on how incredible it was to witness the positive impact their music had on others.
During the ceremony, Shakira dedicated her accolades to her children, emphasizing her commitment to their happiness. She also acknowledged her Spanish audience, who have supported her through both the joys and challenges, possibly alluding to personal struggles and the impending tax evasion trial she faces.
Meanwhile, Laura Pausini became the first non-Iberian artist to be honored as the Person of the Year, while Rosalia captivated the audience with a captivating flamenco tribute performance.
However, the event was not without criticism. Some fans expressed disappointment over the limited recognition for Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny, despite his involvement in the winning track “Coco Chanel” by Eladio Carrion, which won Best Rap/Hip Hop Song.
Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the lack of representation and the decision to host the awards in Seville, with calls for a return to Latin America for future ceremonies.
