Sydney Sweeney did something she had intended to do one day.
“I recently paid off my mom’s mortgage,” Sweeney, 26, told Who What Wear in an interview on Wednesday, March 27. “As a kid, I always dreamt of being able to take care of my parents, so that was a really big thing for me to be able to do.”
The Anyone But You star added that, despite her parents’ divorce, she is grateful for the opportunity to establish positive relationships with everyone she has met while working in the entertainment industry. Sweeney claims that her relationship with her family has helped her stay grounded despite the highs, lows, glitz, and glamor of her career.
“I try to incorporate them into my life as much as possible, whether it’s talking with my cousins every other day or going home,” the Emmy-nominated actress added. “[It’s] difficult because Los Angeles is very different from Spokane.” The cost of a big metropolis vs a small city is substantially different and also challenging.”
Sweeney, on the other hand, stated that even if she only has 24 hours off from set, she will schedule a flight home to see her grandmother or do anything outdoors in her birthplace, such as skiing or hanging out at the lake, to reset.
Aside from living so far away from her family, Sweeney admitted that one of the most difficult aspects of her profession has been not having her parents nearby to enjoy all of her triumphs along the road.
“My quote, unquote success didn’t come until I was in my 20s, so my parents didn’t really get to [experience it with me],” she said.
Sweeney addressed up last year about her parents’ sacrifices to support her acting career. The Madame Web star also stated that she sometimes wonders if it contributed to her parents’ ultimate separation.
“My parents sacrificed so much to support my dream, and they lost so much during it,” she told Variety in August 2023. “I just felt a responsibility to show them that it was worth it.”
She continued, “I’ll never know [if it contributed to their divorce].” As a child, I believe I felt a sense of duty since I was the oldest. They will answer no or yes, depending on the conflict. But I will always feel accountable. But it’s okay.”
Sweeney has been in various TV episodes and movies, including Sharp Objects, The Handmaid’s Tale (2018), and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019). However, her breakthrough part came in 2019, when she was cast as Cassie Howard in HBO Max’s Euphoria.
While information about the third season of Euphoria, including a release date, are scant, Sweeney hinted to Who What Wear that filming will begin “relatively soon.” She also stated that she was not concerned about the potential gap in the show’s timetable caused by filming delays.
“I actually like it because there’s so much room for growth for both me as a person and also Cassie as a character,” she said.
