Shakira’s romantic future remаins uncertain two years after her separation from long-time partner Gerard Piqué. In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1, the singer expressed that she is now prioritizing “friendship” in her life.
Shakira believes that friendship lasts longer than love, although she still recognizes the importance of experiencing love with all its ups and downs. She admitted that she loves love, but perhaps even more so, she values friendship. While she acknowledges that she may not find romantic love again, she cherishes the presence of good friends in her life.
The singer revealed that she had previously placed less value on friendship, prioritizing being in a romantic relationship. However, during difficult times in her life, her friends were there to support her and showed her the true meaning of life. While she may not grow old with a partner, she is confident that she will have the support of good friends as she navigates life.
Shakira and Piqué, who is a professional soccer player, have two sons together. As a single mother, Shakira has chosen to be open and honest with her children about her emotions, believing that concealing feelings from them is a mistake. She encourages open conversations and dialogue with her sons, allowing them to express their opinions and embrace vulnerability.
In a separate interview, Shakira reflected on sacrificing professional opportunities to be by Piqué’s side while he played for FC Barcelona. She put her career on hold for love and made significant sacrifices in the relationship.
On March 22, Shakira will release her first new album in seven years, titled “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Wоmen Don’t Cry Anymore).” Since her separation from Piqué, she has released a few new tracks, but her last full-length studio album, “El Dorado,” was released in 2017. Shakira spent most of the past seven years raising her children in Barcelona but has since moved to Miami after the split.
Shakira and Piqué first met when he made a cameo appearance in her music video for “Waka Waka,” the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
