Shakira’s attention to detail in the production elements of her tours and performances has sometimes resulted in financial losses. In a conversation with Sean Evans on Hot Ones, the Colombian pop star shared that her 2002 Tour of the Mongoose incurred a loss due to a large cobra prop that was featured at the beginning of her shows. Despite the tour being highly successful and sold out, the extravagant production cost of the cobra, amounting to $1 million, contributed to the financial setback. The Tour of the Mongoose, which marked her third-ever tour and coincided with the release of her debut English album, Laundry Service, showcased popular songs like “Whenever, Wherever,” “The One,” and “Ciega, Sordomuda.”
During the Hot Ones episode, Shakira also disclosed her admiration for the animated series Family Guy and her collaboration with Seth MacFarlane to translate her song “Loba” into its English version, “She Wolf,” in 2009. Although she initially sought MacFarlane’s assistance, she ultimately took on the task herself, finding the right words and expressing her intended message.
This interview follows the release of Shakira’s album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, featuring tracks such as “Puntería” with Cardi B, “Entre Paréntesis” with Grupo Frontera, and “Cohete” with Rauw Alejandro.
