With his trademark wit, Travis Kelce is reflecting on the past. The tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs opened up to guest Lil Dicky (real name: Dave Burd) on Wednesday’s episode of his podcast New Heights about the beginnings of his high-profile connection with Taylor Swift.
When Philadelphia Eagles great Jason Kelce—Travis’ brother and co-host—mentioned that they have a lot of Swifties in their audience, the topic naturally shifted to the pop sensation. Burd went on to share his thoughts on the public’s interest in the connection between Travis and Swift.
“I just think there’s something that makes everyone feel like the world is kind of like high school, where your most popular pop star, like, beloved musician somehow met, like, your most popular beloved athlete, and they actually fell in love and it’s real,” Burd suggested. “I dunno, I think anyone who hates on it is a bitter loser. But I think a lot of people who [you] would maybe expect to hate on it actually love it and acknowledge they love it because there’s just something so American about it or something. There’s something just classic about it.’
Travis replied with a joke, cracking, “I don’t know how I did it because she was not into sports. So I don’t know how I did it.”

Burd quickly reminded Travis of his headline-making comments about how he unsuccessfully attempted to deliver his phone number to the songstress via a friendship bracelet at one of her Kansas City, Missouri, Eras Tour shows last summer. Later, Swift went on to call the move “metal as hell” in an interview with Time.
“I know exactly how I did it,” Travis cheekily responded.
The Dave star also asked how the siblings are doing amid their rapid rise in profile over the last year, with Jason replying that his life “has not changed that much.”
Not missing a beat, Travis gushed that he’s having the time of his life.
“I’m having a blast in life, baby,” he said. “Just flying high. Enjoying it all. Bringing new lives to the football world. Opening the football world up to new things, as well.” Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift celebrate the Kansas City Chiefs' win at Super Bowl LVIII. – Ezra Shaw/Getty Images
Although the NFL is now in their summer, Travis has been keeping himself rather active. Following the Chiefs’ February Super Bowl victory, he accompanied his girlfriend to the Bahamas and California for her international Eras Tour events, where he cheered her on. Next month in Kansas City, he will host his second annual Kelce Jam music festival, and he is now preparing for it. According to an ET source, “Taylor and Travis are soaking up their downtime together” while they’re on the road. They are savoring the present moment and the affection they have for one other. They enjoy spending time alone, traveling, seeing new places, and spending time with loved ones when they have the chance to relax. Not long after that, ET got in touch with Travis, who explained to ET how his relationship with Swift manages to work despite their hectic schedules.
“We’re both very career-driven,” he said. “We both love what we do, and any chance that I can show my support to her — and knowing that she’s showing me all the support in the world throughout the season — it’s just been an amazing experience getting to know Tay.”
