On National Siblings Day, Travis Kelce is paying tribute to his brother Jason, even though he isn’t really convinced by all the hype.
The 34-year-old NFL player took to TikTok on Wednesday, April 10, to post a plethora of home movies showcasing the couple from their infant years to their adult years.
There were footage of the two of them when they were toddlers, doing things like going on family trips, swimming races, dressing up as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and training for Little League.
Other videos showcased their NFL journey side by side, from Jason and Travis’s 2023 Super Bowl matchup (in which Travis’ Kansas City Chiefs won) to Jason’s recent celebration of his little brother’s Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory (in which he cheered from the stands).
“Had to send a heartfelt “HAPPY NATIONAL SIBLINGS DAY” greeting to my brother, who treasures imaginary holidays beyond all else.
Like his girlfriend Taylor Swift often does, Travis captioned the photo with a crimson heart and the heart hands emoji.
The Kelces brothers were roommates in Cleveland Heights and went on to play collegiate football for the Bearcats of Cincinnati. In the 2011 NFL Draft, the Eagles picked Jason, and in 2013, the Chiefs signed him as a tight end. Travis was right there in the thick of things when Jason announced his retirement from professional football earlier this year.
“Our family is quite small. An aunt and an uncle, but no cousins. Throughout our lives, it was actually only my brother and me. During a press conference in March, Jason revealed that the group had done nearly everything together, including competing, fighting, laughing, crying, and learning from one another. We made up games and pretended to be the best players of our day. We would imagine ourselves consistently making winning plays on Coleridge Road.
We mentally won a plethora of Super Bowls before we ever stepped foot outside the house. When we weren’t participating, we’d be at our friends’ games, either sitting on a bench or lawn chair, drinking the Capri Sun that mom had brought, and joining in the cheers and celebrations afterward.
“Without the bond that Travis and I share, there’s no way I would be here,” he concluded. It instilled in me the importance of teamwork, loyalty, patience, and understanding while also making me stronger, tougher, and smarter.
The City of Brotherly Love was the perfect setting for my career, as if that weren’t lyrical enough. That couple was someone I was familiar with.
In the latter part of that month, Travis sobbed as he thought about Jason’s 13-year NFL career and the league’s future without him. “You’ve always been a step ahead of me in this game,” he explained during an episode of their “New Heights” podcast. It’s as if I’ve always had this life preserver on hand. Having you removed from it makes it feel hollow. The sense of completion is palpable. It was fruitful.
Travis uses “New Heights” to brag about his role as an uncle to Jason and Kylie Kelce’s three kids, Wyatt Elizabeth, 4, Elliotte Ray, 3, and Bennett Llewellyn, 14 months, highlighting the duo’s off-field closeness that has been widely documented. In an interview with People that Kylie gave in December 2023, the 31-year-old made notice of Travis’ commitment to being there for his brother’s children.
“I tell everybody, he comes to our house to visit and the poor guy doesn’t sit on the couch because our daughters will be like, ‘No, no, you sit on the floor. We’re gonna do a puzzle. We’re gonna build blocks. We’re gonna do this, we’re gonna do that,’” she told the outlet. “Our oldest, she’s our boss. She’s our ring leader, and she just has demand after demand for him. And I’m like, ‘Trav, you know you can tell Wyatt no?’ He was like, ‘Yeah, I don’t think I can.’”
Jason, for his part, opened up about his brother during a 2023 NFL on NBC interview, praising the athlete for being a “special person.”
“His personality, the way he carries himself, he’s fun to be around, he’s smart … and he’s just a good-intentioned human being,” Jason told the outlet. “I wish, in a lot of ways, I was more similar to Trav.”
