It was the moment that seemed to solidify Brittany Mahomes as Taylor Swift’s latest celebrity bestie.

Swift, the Kansas City Chiefs’ newest WAG, appeared to Wisconsin’s Lambeau Field stadium in December to support her tight-end boyfriend Travis Kelce, dressed in a bright red coat.

Ever on the lookout for ‘Easter eggs’ clues left by the pop superstar, eagle-eyed Swifties quickly noticed that the jacket appeared to belong to Mahomes, quarterback Patrick’s wife.

And, indeed, the ladies quickly appeared inseparable, snuggling up in the stands, downing shots for the jumbotron, and dancing together at debauched afterparties.

Swift even looked to have welcomed Mahomes into her exclusive group of girlfriends when they were photographed on a night out in November with Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, and Sophie Turner.

In February, Mahomes dressed in barely-there bikinis for Sports Illustrated, claiming the publication she was surprised to be chosen for the assignment. “Never in my wildest dreams,” she replied, in what many saw to be a charming homage to one of Swift’s most popular songs.

But now insiders are questioning the strength of their friendship, with some claiming Mahomes has been more eager than Swift to give the public the sense of closeness.

Swift even appeared to have welcomed Mahomes into her exclusive club of gal pals when they were photographed together on a night out in November, alongside Selena Gomez and Sophie Turner.

The first symptoms of danger in buddy paradise came when Mahomes appeared in a campaign for Kim Kardashian’s underwear line, Skims.

Brittany posted promotional photos of herself and Patrick and their two children in comfortable Christmas jammies on her own Instagram in November, captioned ‘The holidays start with Skims.’

Of course, Swift and Kardashian have been feuding for years and show no signs of letting up. Swift’s latest album, released last week, included an apparent ‘diss track’ directed at Kim.

According to insiders, some close to Swift believed Mahomes’ campaign was’super odd’.

‘It truly showed how loyal she is to her friends. And Brittany chose money over friendship, which says a lot,’ the source said.

As for the closeness of the pair, the source said that Mahomes is only ‘acting like Taylor’s BFF’ because she ‘is desperate to be known’ and wants to be seen as more than ‘a trophy wife to an NFL star.’

‘She has tried so hard to insert herself into Swift’s circle. She has wanted to be relevant for so long and finally found her in,’ said another source who suggested Mahomes’s Skims ‘betrayal’ is very revealing.

‘She has too many red flags and people are starting to see through her fake and bitchy persona,’ that source said. ‘She is an opportunist who is clearly not a girl’s girl.’

The first signs of trouble in pal paradise came with Mahomes’s appearance in an advertisement for Kim Kardashian’s underwear brand, Skims.

It is understood that Swift is ‘too busy’ to ‘see’ Mahomes’s behavior for what it is, and that at any rate the pair haven’t hung out since the Super Bowl in February.

Insiders also highlight a series of cruel tweets about Swift, penned by Mahomes many years ago.

In one from 2012, Mahomes writes: ‘Taylor Swift, I wanna know when you’re gonna find something different to write about besides boys and relationships #timeforsomethingnew.’

A source said that Mahomes would no doubt put the tweets down to the actions of ‘a stupid teenager’ and insist that ‘she loves Taylor’s music now’. But apparently such excuses won’t wash.

As of publication, Mahomes had not replied to calls for comment, but a public feud with Swift would not be his first.

In February, she faced harsh criticism for appearing to continue with post-Super Bowl celebrations in Kansas City following a horrifying shooting during the Chiefs’ victory parade that killed one and injured more than 20.

Mahomes was seen smiling and enjoying food and drink at a dive pub just hours after the attack, despite the fact that numerous victims were in critical condition.

Then there’s her perceived treatment of employees.

In January, people slammed Mahomes’ ‘high horse’ attitude after a video surfaced showing her behaving dismissively to a stadium employee.

In the video, Mahomes is seen walking with her husband after a game when she unexpectedly asks a staff member, ‘Where do we go from here?’ while spinning her finger in a circle.

The video went viral, causing a frenzy of speculation about the star’s previous behavior.

TikTok user Jessica O’Connor stated that she previously worked at a Hollywood hotel that Brittany visited in 2022 and failed to tip the staff.

‘My first interaction with her, she ran up over a $100 tab. She was with her whole posse — Patrick was not there — but I believe their tab was well over $100, maybe $130. $0 tip,’ O’Connor said.

Others claiming to have served Mahomes then piled on the pressure in the comments area, with one declaring: “Can confirm!” I worked as a bottle server at a Kansas City nightclub, and this is exactly what I experienced.

Certainly, Mahomes lives a pretty lavish lifestyle. Patrick earns an estimated $53 million per year and has her own fitness company as well as a significant ownership in the Kanas City Current women’s soccer team.

The Mahomeses reside on a large $8 million estate in Kansas City, which has an indoor basketball court, home gym, movie theater, pool, golf course, and, of course, a 50-yard football field.

There’s also a $5.5 million Texas house for vacations and a plethora of exotic international travels.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated for that interview in February, Mahomes admitted: ‘People are going to love you or hate you.’ 

No doubt she will be hoping to avoid too much of the latter.
