During an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Lopez admitted she was quite disappointed when her movie Hustlers did not receive any Oscar nominations.
“I was very sad because it was the effort of many people. I read many articles praising Hustlers, and it was even the time I received the most attention in my entire career. That made me hope more. and in the end I was disappointed”.
“Furthermore, I think the whole film crew was really looking forward to being nominated for an Oscar this time. So, I think I disappointed everyone when I didn’t get what I expected,” J.Lo added.
Hustlers is a film based on an article published in New York Magazine in 2016, following a group of strippers who quit their jobs and seek to change their lives.
The film revolves around single mother Dorothy (played by Constance Wu) and stripper Ramona (played by Jennifer Lopez). To make ends meet, Dorothy decided to become a dancer. She received extremely enthusiastic help and guidance from Ramona – a girl with many years of experience in the profession. However, after the financial crisis in the 2000s, the two struggled to make ends meet and sought change.
After its release, the film received a lot of attention from the audience. Critics did not hesitate to praise them, saying that this was the best work of the On The Floor singer’s career. One of the reasons why the film was so well received is because of the powerful message it brings. Many people even affirm that Jennifer will most likely receive an Oscar nomination for herself. Therefore, as soon as the Oscar nomination list was announced, many audiences expressed disappointment and regret when Hustlers was not on the list.
