According to reports from Colombian media outlet El Heraldo, Shakira’s father, Mr. William Mebarak Chadid, aged 92, was admitted to the Ibero-American Clinic in Barranquilla, Colombia, on Wednesday, June 5, due to pneumonia. Currently, he remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) under constant monitoring. Despite these developments, Shakira has yet to make any official statements regarding her father’s condition.
It has been noted that the singer is making preparations to travel from Miami to her native Colombia to be close to her mother in light of her father’s health crisis.
Mr. Mebarak’s health challenges have been ongoing since 2022, a tumultuous year marked by Shakira’s separation from her children’s father, Gerard Piqué. During this period, Mr. William faced multiple hospitalizations in Barcelona, including one following a fall in May 2022, which resulted in a head injury. Shakira documented this incident on her social media, sharing her experience of accompanying her father in the ambulance to a medical facility.
Later that year, in October, Mr. Mebarak suffered a stroke, further complicating his health condition. Despite the adversity, Shakira remained steadfastly by his side, providing care and support throughout his recovery journey, even participating in rehabilitation therapies to aid his progress.
Following her separation from Piqué in the spring of 2023, Shakira, along with her children and parents, relocated from Spain to Miami. After a brief period in Florida, her parents traveled to Colombia, where Mr. William underwent surgery for hydrocephalus in June of the same year. Shakira joined her father in Cartagena, Colombia, to offer her support during his recovery process.
Now, with news of her father facing another health setback, Shakira’s family remains at the forefront of her concerns, although she has not yet addressed the situation publicly.
