Colombian pop star Shakira and football star Wayne Rooney found themselves unexpectedly enjoying each other’s company at the Fifa Ballon d’Or Gala in Switzerland on Monday night.
Rooney appeared delighted to meet the singer, who looked stunning in a floor-length red gown that complemented the colors of his Manchester United team. Shakira, 34, exuded a Marilyn Monroe-like charm with her newly styled blonde bob and accessorized with jeweled details and a matching clutch.
Rooney, at 26, looked sharp in a black suit paired with a white shirt and black tie for the prestigious event, where football’s top performer of the season was honored by Fifa.
The two celebrities crossed paths on the red carpet in Zurich, exchanging laughs and seeming to share a joke before heading into the Kongresshaus venue. Shakira, a guest of honor, took the stage later in the evening to announce the main award winner amid jovial interactions with Fifa President Joseph S. Blatter.
During the festivities, Shakira also received a kiss from Brazilian football legend Pele and posed for photographs with Lionel Messi, Barcelona’s Argentine striker who was crowned the night’s top honoree. Shakira expressed particular delight in Messi’s win, as he is a teammate of her boyfriend, Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.
Following the gala, Shakira shared several personal photos from the event on her social media profiles, including a tender moment captured with Pique kissing her forehead. She captioned the album on Facebook and Twitter with: “More photos on my Facebook – Más fotos en mi Facebook.”
