Coldplay dedicates the ‘Heartbreak’ track ‘Everglow’ to Taylor Swift in Germany ‘Because She Left Town’

Coldplay is rooting for the Swifties in Germany!

Coldplay’s Chris Martin dedicated the band’s 2016 song “Everglow” to Taylor Swift during a concert in Düsseldorf, Germany, on Saturday, July 20. Swift recently left the adjacent city of Gelsenkirchen following her Eras Tour shows there.

Martin, 47, sat onstage behind a piano at the Merkur Spiel-Arena, saying, “Now this is for Taylor Swift because she left town,” before the concertgoers cheered.

Taylor Swift honors ‘amazing’ and ‘thoughtful’ German fans following her Eras Tour shows in the country.

Coldplay is set to headline two gigs at Düsseldorf’s Merkur Spiel-Arena on July 20 and 21. Their international performances follow their headline show at the 2024 Glastonbury Festival on Saturday, June 29.

Swift played her third and final gig for the first time on Friday, July 19, in Gelsenkirchen, which is located just northeast of Düsseldorf. Her next performances will be in Hamburg and Munich, Germany.

“Those 3 Gelsenkirchen crowds were AMAZING, and so thoughtful???” She wrote in the caption. “There were posters and paper hearts, the ‘Betty’ wave, and thousands of DIY ‘willow’ orbs formed from balloons and phone flashlights. “Thank you!!!”

“… Now that we’ve officially kicked off our shows in Germany, I can’t wait to see you all in Hamburg next!” Swift added.

She then expressed gratitude to everyone who has “supported” The Tortured Poets Department since its debut in April.

“I am completely blown away by what you’ve done – [the album] stayed at #1 for the first 12 weeks of its release and that’s never happened to an album of mine before, not even close!!,” Swift wrote in her statement. She added: “You’re just the greatest.” 

“Anyway, now that we’ve officially kicked off our shows in Germany, I can’t wait to see you all in Hamburg next!” Swift ended her post.
