SHAKIRA was seen saying a tearful farewell to her life in Spain as she departed for Miami with her sons following her high-profile split from former partner Gerard Piqué.
The 46-year-old singer, known for her hit “Hips Don’t Lie,” left Barcelona today, marking the start of her move to Florida. The departure was marked by an emotional goodbye, with family and friends present to bid her farewell. Spanish media characterized this moment as her “final goodbye” to her old life as she begins a new chapter in the United States.
Despite her tears, Shakira exuded effortless style in a denim outfit as she, along with her two sons—Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8—made their way to the departure gate.
In an emotional Twitter post later in the evening, she shared: “I settled in Barcelona to give my children stability, the same stability that we are now seeking in another corner of the world next to family, friends, and the sea. Today we start a new chapter in the search for our happiness.”
Shakira’s move was originally scheduled for January 3, but was delayed due to her father’s deteriorating health. The news of her departure reportedly annoyed Piqué, who was given only a few days’ notice about the move, according to sources.
Shakira’s lawyer Pilar Mane formally informed Piqué’s lawyer, Ramon Tamborero, of the move, while Shakira herself called Piqué to confirm the details. Piqué is said to have been upset by the lack of detailed notice about the move.
The two boys are expected to start school in Florida on April 11, following the spring break for U.S. students.
The split between Shakira and Piqué, who had been together for 11 years, has been marked by public disputes and media scrutiny. Piqué was quickly linked to 24-year-old Clara Chia Marti after the breakup, and rumors of infidelity have persisted.
In November, Shakira and Piqué finalized a child custody agreement after an extensive negotiation process, culminating in a lengthy 12-hour meeting with their lawyers. They signed the agreement in a Barcelona court the following month. As part of the agreement, Piqué will have holiday time with his children.
Shakira’s desire to move to Miami, where she has family and close friends, was a major point of contention in their custody battle. The singer-songwriter, who owns a £14 million mansion in Miami, had previously attempted to sell the property in 2018 before withdrawing it from the market.
Spanish media also speculate that Shakira may be romantically involved with a new mystery man based in Miami.
